15th Annual Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic raises $130,000 for charity
Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA – The Sens Foundation announced that $130,000 was raised at the 15th Annual Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic, which was held Monday at The Marshes golf club.

With this total, the Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic has now collected more than $1,095,000 over its 15-year history. Of the monies raised, $50,000 is destined for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and $80,000 for the Sens Foundation to support registered charitable organizations, whose programs focus on improving the quality of life for underprivileged children and youth.

“There is nothing more important than our children. The money raised at today’s event will help ensure that we are able to provide them with all the advantages they need to lead healthy and happy lives,” said Ottawa Senators CEO and president Roy Mlakar. “We couldn’t achieve this success without the help of Bell, presenting sponsor the Ottawa Citizen and the many sponsors who have come together today in the spirit of caring and community.”

Fred Bartlett, president and CEO of the CHEO Foundation echoed his support of the event. “We are very fortunate to have two great organizations such as Bell and the Senators work together to improve the lives of our children and youth,“ he said. “We are thrilled that they have chosen CHEO as a beneficiary.”

Bell and the Sens Foundation announced in May 2006 a commitment to raise $1 million for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) over a five-year period. The 15th Annual Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic, which is the club’s first official public function of the season, is one of the events that will help Bell and the Sens Foundation fulfill the million-dollar goal.
