The 2009 Bell Sens Soirée, the premier fundraising event of the Sens Foundation raised more than $300,000 for local charities. The money raised will be donated to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Fondation du CSSS de Gatineau, Fondation de l'Hôpital Montfort, Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation, Ottawa Rotary Home Foundation and Roger’s House.
This jazz-themed event provided more than 650 guests with the opportunity to try out their blackjack and roulette skills - with president and CEO Roy Mlakar and Senators players acting as celebrity hosts - bid on some spectacular auction items and enjoy a gourmet meal. Renowned Canadian jazz pianist Brian Browne and jazz vocalist Diane White took to the main stage to entertain guests during the dinner portion of the evening. Guests also enjoyed an “After Party”, presented by Ernst & Young, while enjoying Big Band jazz and dancing.
Since 1992, the Ottawa Senators and the Sens Foundation, through their annual dinner/soirée event, have provided more than $1.9 million to charities in the region.
In May 2006, Bell and the Ottawa Senators announced a commitment to raise $1 million for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario over five years. The 2008 Bell Sens Soirée is one of the key events that will help Bell and the Sens Foundation fulfill the million-dollar goal.
