“It takes just one person to make a difference in the life of a child”
- Max Keeping
The Sens Foundation and the Max Keeping Foundation hosted the third annual Just One Person awards, presented by Microsoft Canada, at a pre-Ottawa Senators game reception on Thursday, Nov. 13. Cyril Leeder, chief operating officer of Senators Sports & Entertainment received the 2008 Just One Person award, as chosen by the selection committee.
Just One Person provides a scholarship program for youth-in-care and a community award acknowledging the contributions of a citizen from the Ottawa region who has helped to make a positive change for our youth. This year’s Just One Person scholarship program has expanded its reach, offering bursaries at Carleton University.
The objective to raise $30,000 through the awards celebration event was realized on Nov. 13, during a reception dinner at Scotiabank Place before the Senators home game against the New York Islanders. This amount will be matched by Carleton University and, combined with matching funds from the Government of Ontario’s Student Opportunity Trust Fund, will realize an endowment fund of $90,000. This contribution will provide much-needed funds for post-secondary bursaries for the youth-in-care of our community, adding to the already $180,000 previously endowed since the event’s inception.
The Just One Person award celebration, hosted by Max Keeping, provides a great opportunity for supporters to learn about the challenges that youth living under the care of the Children’s Aid Society experience every day.
The first two years of the Just One Person awards celebration provided for an endowment fund at the University of Ottawa. The Sens Foundation, Max Keeping Foundation and Carleton University are challenging other organizations and post-secondary institutions across Canada to create a similar awards program and scholarship fund.
The Sens Foundation strives to create a relationship that is beneficial for both its corporate partners and the charities we support. Check out some of the great sponsorship opportunities available for the 2009 Just One Person Awards Celebration by calling the Sens Foundation at 613-599-0323.
