2018 Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic raises $112,800
Event has now raised more than $2.5 million over its 24-year history
OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators Foundation (@sensfoundation) is pleased to announce that $112,800 was raised at the Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic held earlier today at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. More than 100 golfers, along with members of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club (@Senators), attended this year’s event, the hockey club’s first official public function of the 2018-19 season.
“Thanks to the support from the hockey club, its players, event sponsors and participants, students and families will receive addiction education and have access to support when they need it most,” said Danielle Robinson, president and CEO, Ottawa Senators Foundation. “Everyone came together as a team today to make a difference in our community and we leave grateful and inspired by their support.”
The proceeds from today’s event will support the work of the Ottawa Senators Foundation and address the growing need to educate youth about the dangers of substance abuse while also funding treatment programs for those in need of help. Programs like project step reach students at all 57 high schools in Ottawa, including alternate schools, to ensure they have access to school-based prevention, education, and counselling. In addition to services for students and families, the addiction counsellors also provide support for other school-based initiatives, including teacher training and parent events.
“We’re very proud to partner with the Ottawa Senators Foundation once again this year to support mental health programs for children and youth in the region,” said Mirko Bibic, Bell’s Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer and Executive Vice President, Corporate Development. “The Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic plays a vital role in raising funds that go directly to improving the lives of young people, and bringing awareness to the challenges they face.”
The Ottawa Senators Foundation wishes to thank event sponsors Bell, Ferguslea Properties Limited, Molson, MBNA, Canadian Tire, Scotiabank, Corbeil Appliances, Canadian Bank Note Limited, Capital Taxi/Coventry Connections, MSI Corp, Konica Minolta, Mark Motors Group of Companies, Beam Suntory, Faces Magazine, Bell Media Ottawa, E&J Gallo, Ottawa Business Journal and Casino Lac-Leamy for their generous support. In addition, the Foundation is appreciative of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, its board of directors and staff for donating the tournament’s green fees.
The Bell/Ottawa Senators Charity Golf Classic is the only event in the region where participants are paired with members of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club. This highly anticipated exclusive experience is limited to only 108 players, and while the number of participants is small, the historical results have been significant. Thanks to the support of the hockey club’s players, coaches and alumni, sponsors and participants, the event has raised more than $2.5 million over its 24-year history. It truly has changed the game for thousands of children and youth in our community.
