Ottawa Senators Foundation breaks ground on 15th SENS RINK at Parc St–Gérard
OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators Foundation (@sensfoundation), in partnership with Ville de Gatineau, the National Hockey League (NHL), National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) and Fondation 24h Tremblant, broke ground on the 15th SENS RINK in the Ottawa-Gatineau region with a ceremony held earlier today at Parc St–Gérard.
The Ottawa Senators Foundation is eliminating the barriers to recreation for thousands of children and youth across the region. In partnership with the Ville de Gatineau, the Ottawa Senators Foundation is expanding the traditional program offerings of outdoor rinks and adding new activities that attract more kids to year-round outdoor play and exposing young people to new sporting and physical activities.
“We’re proud to start construction on our fifth SENS RINK in Gatineau, expanding our presence in the area is a priority for our Foundation and the Ottawa Senators hockey club.” said Danielle Robinson, president and CEO, Ottawa Senators Foundation “Thanks to our strong partnership with the Ville de Gatineau, the National Hockey League, the National Hockey League Players Association and support from Fondation 24h Tremblant, the new SENS RINK will give local children and families a safe and enjoyable place to play year-round.”
“Keeping our children active is a priority. Skating rinks are a key gathering place and playground, particularly for our young people. Our residents will be able to skate and play hockey in the winter, and in warmer weather, play basketball and ball hockey on the asphalt surface. On behalf of everyone in Gatineau, I thank the Ottawa Senators Foundation and its partners,” indicated Pierre Lanthier, municipal councilor for the Bellevue district and chair of the Commission des loisirs, des sports et du développement des communautés.
The groundbreaking and subsequent construction of the SENS RINK at Parc St–Gérard marks the 15th of the Foundation’s 20-rink commitment and fifth SENS RINK in the Gatineau area. SENS RINKS are recreational spaces that offer free year-round sporting activities and serve as a social hub for families in the neighbourhood.
