ONCOLOGY WELL BEING PROGRAM

The Oncology and Well Being Program at CHEO was initiated by families and born out of an identified need for mental health support. in 2017, a Clinical Psychologist was hired to provide assessments, consultations, and counselling to children and youth currently in treatment as well as to cancer survivors who have to deal with lingering effects from their treatment.
Well Being Program

The program is 100 percent donor-funded at a cost of $150,000 per year. In its inaugural year, nearly 900 counselling hours were provided throughout the year to 15 to 18 oncology patients per week. This program has a huge impact on patients – their scholastic endeavors, ability to get jobs (older youth) and socialize with peers. This program has only been in place for a year but is having a very positive impact and outcomes.
